The Disciplining and Delivering Mercies of God

I will not be publishing any new articles this week because I spent all of last week writing and preparing to deliver my first sermon. I was privileged (and a little terrified!) to preach for the first time yesterday morning at my church, NOLA Baptist. Though I won’t have any new articles to share with you guys this week, I am including a link to the sermon in this post. If you want to give it a listen, go right ahead—just don’t judge me too harshly; it was my first sermon! Lol!

The sermon text is Jonah 1:17-2:10.

I thought it was absolutely wonderful for a first sermon. Somehow, if I were thrown into the ocean and then swallowed by a whale for three days, I cannot picture myself THANKING God for the experience. I would be terrified and ranting and raving “God, why have you done this to me? Do you hate me that much!” But, as you aptly pointed out, it is the voice of Satan whispering in our ear that makes us react that way. Of course he wants to make us think that God hates us. And what an opportunity he had here. Lord, help us all to know that discipline, even as harsh as this was, is intended to show how much God loves us and to bring us back to Him when we rebel against Him.
